If
you overdo de-icing, it can cause damage to your pavers and concrete driveways,
walkways, patios and steps. Pittsburgh Stone and
Waterscapes suggests using calcium chloride or magnesium
chloride as ice melters, as it's the safest for pavers, concrete and asphalt
--- and the least damaging. (You can always lay out sand or kitty litter, as it
is safe for surfaces and your animals!)
If
you do use rock salt, try to rinse it off as soon as possible and not leave it
sit on the area.
